Living with a cat often means adjusting to their moods, schedules, and curious habits. For some families, this arrangement feels balanced and loving.
For others, it feels like living under the rule of a furry dictator. In the case of Nanoos, a spirited orange tabby, there is no doubt who runs the household.
Nanoos has always had a sharp personality and an even sharper way of expressing her feelings.
A Cat Who Rules the House
She has no interest in making new friends, no matter if they are human or animal, and she makes her opinions known with swats, growls, or by disappearing into another room.
Her mom, Reem Mohammad, learned early on that Nanoos wasn’t the type to melt into cuddles.
While many cats might soften with age or show kindness to at least a few people, Nanoos has taken the opposite route.
Her distaste for the world around her has been almost comical at times.

Reem has laughed when telling others that her cat “hates everything that breathes,” but she says it with affection.
For her, Nanoos’ prickly character is simply part of who she is. Life with Nanoos is unpredictable, filled with scratch marks and hisses, yet also strangely endearing.
An Unexpected Favorite
Despite her icy reputation, Nanoos does have one weakness: her grandfather. Out of everyone she has ever met, he is the only person she willingly chooses to love.
Around him, she transforms from a grouchy loner into a sweet, loyal companion. She follows him from room to room, rests near him with ease, and shows a tenderness that no one else in the family ever experiences.
To her mother’s amusement, Nanoos ignores everyone else but seems enchanted by her grandfather’s presence.
The family has tried to understand this odd devotion, but no explanation fits. He doesn’t spoil her with treats more than others. He doesn’t chase her with toys.
Somehow, their connection formed naturally, and it has remained strong ever since. Reem often jokes that her dad must have a secret charm that only cats can sense.
For the rest of the household, the sight is both heartwarming and hilarious.
Nanoos may despise visitors, other animals, and even her mom on most days, but her granddad receives her full attention. If love is a rare gift from this tabby, then he has won the lottery.
But when it comes to children, Nanoos refuses to bend.
The sound of kids playing, the clatter of small footsteps, or the giggles of happiness are enough to set her off. She hisses, growls, and hides away until the danger has passed.
Her family half-jokes that Nanoos is allergic to joy. It isn’t about fear — it seems more like annoyance at their innocence. To Nanoos, kids remain sworn enemies, and her opinion hasn’t softened one bit.
Small Steps, Lasting Love
Although her dislike of children is permanent, Nanoos has made progress in other parts of her life. With help from cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy, Reem began trying new approaches.
She increased playtime, even when Nanoos wasn’t always willing to join in. She practiced gentler handling, making sure to respect Nanoos’ limits.
Over time, the changes worked. These days, Nanoos will occasionally play back, showing flashes of kitten-like energy.
On special days, she even allows herself to be held without drawing blood. These may seem like small victories, but for Reem, they are enormous milestones.

Nanoos is still unapologetically herself — feisty, opinionated, and unpredictable. Her claws remain sharp, and her dislike for most people hasn’t disappeared.
Yet she has softened enough to show that growth is possible, even for the grumpiest of cats. Her family has learned to accept her quirks, to laugh at her dramatic behavior, and to love her exactly as she is.
They no longer hope she will turn into a gentle lap cat. Instead, they celebrate her little steps forward while respecting her boundaries.
At the end of the day, Nanoos may never enjoy the sound of children or open her heart to the rest of the family.
But to those who live with her, that doesn’t matter. She is part of their world, and they wouldn’t trade her for anything.
Nanoos rules her home with an iron paw, and her family is happy to let her.
Perhaps one day she’ll surprise them again with a softer side, but until then, they adore the fierce orange tabby who keeps them laughing, guessing, and loving harder than they ever expected.
